The Pearls Drumming School

“One of the most powerful aspects of drumming and the reason people have done it since the beginning of being human is that it changes people's consciousness. Through rhythmic repetition of ritual sounds, the body, the brain and the nervous system are energized and transformed. When a group of people play a rhythm for an extended period of time, their brain waves become entrained to the rhythm and they have a shared brain wave state. ”

— Layne Redmond

The Pearls drumming school formerly known as the Tumaadir drumming school was set up by Pearls of Islam in 2012.

The duo have an extensive range of experience in drumming and singing and have been invited all over the UK and the world to perform and share their art. The duo have become renowned for their unique drumming style and fusion of different traditions. They incorporate the djembe, darbouka and daff in their performances. The intention of the school was to use their experience, love for the drum and the voice as a means of healing, gathering, expression and remembrance of the divine. The school is a space to revive the beautiful tradition of drumming and singing as means of praise and remembrance particularly among women and children

About us

Drumming and Singing is a vehicle of healing and can be used to bring people from all walks of life together as well as introduce beneficial skills such as enhancing ones concentration, listening, "better flow of oxygen through deep breathing, reduces stress and anxiety, builds stamina, helps you ‘be in the now’ and makes you happy". Drumming paired with singing nasheeds and praises of our beloved Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) then takes the art to a completely different dimension.

The drumming school has been running for over 10 years and alhamdulilah in 2020 launched its online programme which saw the beginning of their 'Foundations of Daff Course' and Online Group classes.

All of our courses are bespoke and have been specially curated to reflect the Pearls of Islam Drumming style. All arrangements have been put together by Sakinah Lenoir

What People Are Saying

I finally did something I've been wanting to do for years, pick up a drum and actually learn to play it. We give ourselves so many reasons why we shouldn't do something; its too expensive, I have no time, I should spend that money on necessities. Honestly, its worth every penny! I didn't even care whether I would be any good! Just being in a group with women all at the same level was really lovely. We were encouraging each other and celebrating each other's successes. Sakinaا was an A** teacher. She was calm, patient, humble and made it feel spiritual but fun. I couldn’t recommend it more highly

The quality of the teaching has been consistently impeccable, instructions always given and broken down well, extremely fair and balanced feedback has been given throughout the classes too, which has been both attainable to apply, and massively empowering. I’ve also really enjoyed learning alongside others, inspired by their confidence and growth and vibes.

Our child has enjoyed every minute of this beautiful course. Her teacher has been warm, friendly, enthusiastic and passionate. It has been integral in instilling our child's love for singing, drumming and most importantly love for Our Creator and His Beloved Prophet (ﷺ).

I was nervous about signing up for the classes for a long while. When I finally took the plunge, I did not expect to feel so comfortable and accepted in a group of sisters I had not met before. I also really loved the feeling of making a rhythm with the drum that was then used with nasheeds/qasidas. I loved the songs chosen for the course and my heart felt uplifted every week!
