Join us for a five-session online course exploring the beauty and the soulfulness of classical Arabic singing. The course will cover fundamentals of vocal technique, Maqamaat, and rhythms, focusing on two qasidas in Maqam Nahawand and the three rhythms that accompany them.

Ghizlane Gzili
Ghizlane is a classical Arabic singer specializing in Muwashshahat and Sufi poetry. She acquired her knowledge in this ancient and rich vocal art, along with the study of maqamat (modes) and iqa'at (rhythms), under the guidance of her mentor and teacher, Ustadh Khaled Alhafez from Syria, among other experts. Ghizlane has performed at cultural events in Canada, Peru, and her current home, Morocco. She believes her calling is to share the beauty of voice through soulful maqamat and classical Arabic poetry, expressing this passion through both performance and teaching. Ghizlane offers singing lessons in English to women from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, aiming to make this art form accessible to all, regardless of musical experience or proficiency in the Arabic language
FAQs
Is this class online?
Yes, this class will take place online via Zoom. It will be a group class with a minimum of 5 students. Our classes are not able to go ahead unless there is a minimum of 5 students signed up.
DO you record your classes?
Classes are not recorded, however you will have access to our student portal which includes videos of all the rhythms and songs that you will cover during the course. However our on-demand Drumming and Nasheed 101 course, provides pre-recorded classes for you to enjoy at your own pace in your own time.
Do I need a Drum for the class
Yes, it is recommended for you to have a drum for the session. We welcome all types of drums. A djembe, darbouka or a Daff would be ideal but whichever is easiest for you to access. If you don’t have a drum you can also use a pot lid, celebration tin etc. Get creative! Don’t use it as an excuse not o join us.

DO you offer any discounts?
We are not financially able to offer any discounts as our courses are priced at the bare minimum to ensure accessibility to as many people as possible. However payment plans are available, you can pay in three monthly payments.
What happens once I complete the course?
We have three stages of the Drumming and Nasheed Essential Course. Once you have completed all three stages and have passed your assessment, you will be able to sign up to receive a certification of completion.
